I was dismayed to return from winter break and to see that the Bucky Dome in front of Quigley has been removed. SIU should be highlighting its distinctiveness-- and nothing is more distinctive than R. Buckminster Fuller. This is an entirely short-sighted move that did not take into account all stakeholders. Solutions could have easily been found if efforts had been made.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has such great aesthetic potential. It never seems to pull it all together, however. Revealing SIU is a forum to highlight, post photos and discuss the many hidden gems on campus and in and around the SIU/Carbondale community. I am primarily interested in discussions of art, architecture, design, and events, but want this to be open to all things SIU and Carbondale. I also want to encourage frank discussions of things that need to be improved.

Faner
I will wade into the aesthetic qualities of Faner. I am a big fan of the design of Faner, yes, I admit it, I like Faner. This might be because I grew up in the 1970s and my grandmother was the curator of the Katonah Gallery in NY. She regularly organized modern exhibits at the gallery and I think the aesthetic gradually seeped in. Salukitecture has two interesting posts on the history and current function of the building.
